In this modern day when almost everything is run by computer and no one seems to believe in paranormal and supernatural, the sorcerer will be invading the silver screen to remind us that their kind still exist.
On July 14, 2010, the fantasy adventure comedy film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is set to entertain us with science and magic of sorcery. Nicholas Cage is the sorcerer and he takes an apprentice. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is said to have been loosely based on the Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment shown in Disney’s Fantasia, which was also based on symphonic poem by Paul Dukas in the late 1890s and ballad written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1797 with the same title.

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”

Leaving Las Vegas: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack $11.98 There aren’t many directors with the talent–or nerve–to compose and play the music for their films (although creepmeister John Carpenter comes to mind), and none have done it more artfully than Mike Figgis on Leaving Las Vegas. Though Figgis was nominated for both writing and directing Oscars (and Nicolas Cage won one for Best Actor) for the 1995 film, listening to his subdued, moody jazz (punct… |

Bible: In the Beginning [Blu-ray] $14.99 John Huston adapted the first 22 chapters of the Book of Genesis in this mostly silly film that takes us from Creation through Noah’s Ark through Abraham’s near-sacrifice of son Isaac. This is one of Huston’s more personally distant projects, à la Annie or Victory; and for the most part you’d barely know there was even a director involved. On the other hand, Huston does provide some of the only l… |

National Treasure [Blu-ray] $20.98 Like a Hardy Boys mystery on steroids, National Treasure offers popcorn thrills and enough boyish charm to overcome its rampant silliness. Although it was roundly criticized as a poor man’s rip-off of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Da Vinci Code, it’s entertaining on its own ludicrous terms, and Nicolas Cage proves once again that one actor’s infectious enthusiasm can compensate for a multitude o… |
